South East Careers

On Page and Screen: 19th/21st October and for 30 Days More!

People from across the South East joined us on the 19th and 21st October, and have been joining us since, at the inaugural ‘South East Careers’ virtual event, delivered in partnership between SELEP’s Skills Advisory Panel and Digital Skills Partnership.

We were delighted to be joined each day too by a fantastic range of employers and organisations well-placed to support young people and adult jobseekers, both at their own exhibition stand, and in our virtual auditorium, where individuals gave a range of short presentations on things like sector spotlights, insight into our major projects and their future skills needs, and the future of work.

The event was opened in the auditorium by Rt. Hon. Robert Halfon MP, who joined us from his parliamentary office, before Iain Hawthorn (HSBC) gave our keynote presentation about the future of work. Following on from Robert and Iain, our programme across the two days included a sector spotlight on Construction (delivered by SELEP’s Skills Advisory Panel Chair, Helen Clements from Morgan Sindall), a presentation on the value of research in seeking opportunities (Sharon Walpole, Careermap), spotlights on Care (Pia Rathje-Burton, Skills for Care), Creative and Digital (Jo Nolan, Screen South), Apprenticeships (Trisha Seecharran, ASK Apprenticeships), Lower Thames Crossing (Lauren Edmunds, LTC) and Ebbsfleet Garden City (Lara Pool, Ebbsfleet Development Corporation), as well as presentations on Technology and Work (Jacqueline de Rojas CBE and Sheila Flavell CBE, both from TechUK), hints and tips for jobseekers (Stephen Watering, National Careers Service) and specialist employment services (Mitch Mitchell, The Employment People, Kent).

We’ve listed our speaker content from the two days here at southeastskills, as well as the information exhibitors shared via their virtual booths. Take a look through this useful content below. Read the South East Careers Magazine too, that we shared with organisations and individuals in advance of the October event, by clicking on the button elsewhere on this page.

We’d like to thank all of the presenters and exhibitors listed below, for helping us to make what we hope was a truly informative and useful event for residents across the South East. Thanks also, of course, to everyone that attended either session or that’s viewed information since.
